Heroes And Heroines
Who are your Heroes and Heroines? Where do you get your inspiration? Who are you following?
Medics? Nurses? Doctors? Scientists? Lyricists? Designers?
Politicians 🤔 ?? ...Plantsmen?
On 19th June 200 years ago1820 one of my heroes, Sir Joseph
Banks passed away. He was my first inspiration for Alfresco.
I was working as a volunteer at Chelsea Physic Garden where Sir Joseph had been a Curator.
I admired Sir Joseph The Adventurer, Entrepreneur & Botanist, so much so that I asked our researchers to find a way of making perfumes and lotions to keep away bugs using the botanicals he discovered hundreds of years ago on his ‘business trips’ overseas
Banks made his name on the 1766 natural-history expedition He took part in Captain James Cook’s Voyage (1768–1771), visiting Brazil, Tahiti, and after 6 months in New Zealand, Australia, returning to immediate fame. He advised King George III on the Royal Botanic Garden Kew, and by sending botanists around the world to collect plants, he made Kew the world's leading botanical gardens. He is credited for bringing 30,000 plant specimens home with him; amongst them, he discovered 1,400.
Alfresco’s Botanical Ingredients are components in our natural insect repellent products that originates from plants (herbs, roots, flowers, fruits, leaves or seeds). These specific ingredients are derived from biological sources based on their chemical structure and how they are isolated from plants.
My other heroes are varied!
Sir Rod Stewart, Sir Ray Davies and Frank Sinatra. Heroines? Florence Nightingale & Vivienne Westwood.
